NOTICE: all those missions starting by DIII New Story are part of an alternate complete different story of what you know when playing DIII the first time. It is not "new" in the sense "following DIII" but it's "new" in the sense "an alternate story in a parallel universe". Hence, every characters meet for the first time in different places and contexts, led by another plot between different protagonists having different roles than in the original DIII story.
The small gang successfully captured Frank alive at the Eagle's Nest, and now, after 2 days of travel, they are on board of a train of the DeVitt Company. They are getting close to Flagstone but the train is unexpectedly stopped just before entering a tunnel.
Map: Byer's Pass
Playable characters: Doc and Hector
First Time Playing Duration: long (1h +)
Once the train stopped, the gang get out of the wagon to try to understand what's happening.
Doc goes up on the top of the wagon and uses the lens of his rifle to have a better view.
He can see that the head of the train is surrounded by bandits and some of them are getting closer to the gang, waiting for them.
The gang wonders if they are part of Frank's men. Cooper asks Frank but he said he doesn't know.
Cooper replies that the 4 of them might kill them all to resume their journey.
Frank says that he doesn't care, he doesn't know them, and that he just wants to arrive in Flagstone.
Doc takes another look through his rifle, and he kind of recognize Big Ann at the top of the tunnel's entrance.
She was one of the 2 henchmen of Higgins in Flagstone, who disappeared after the McBane job.
There is also someone else beside her but he doesn't recall this man.
John tells Hector and Doc to go to the front, clean the way of every bandits so that the train can resume its trip, while he and Kate stay at the back with Frank.
- With Doc and Hector, go to the front of the train
- Kill all bandits
- The mission ends when getting close to the train conductor who is surrounded
The civilians around the train are friendly, so they won't trigger an alarm if you play with noise. (like using the shotgun of Hector to kill a handful of enemies at once).
The train conductor is not marked as friendly, but his detection is disabled, so a shot with Hector won't set the alarm too.
There are no ammo boxes in the level, but Hector and Doc start the mission fully equipped.
It's more fun to play it without alarm. At the right place, the shotgun of Hector can still be used 2 or 3 times without triggering an alert.
During the prologue part III, Doc and Hector were competing for the number of kills without knowing each other. The result was almost tied or pretty close. This time, each one of them wants to prove to the other he's the most lethal killer.
Try to kill the most enemies as possible
- with Doc
- or with Hector
Like the previous mission, I really like the result of this edited level
